What is Bildungsurlaub?
Paid Educational Leave
German employees are entitled by law to up to 5 paid working days per year for officially recognised professional development courses.
5 or 10 Days
Take 5 days per year, or combine two years to enjoy 10 consecutive days of language study in Malta.
Full-Time Employees
You must have been employed for at least 6 months. Part-time workers can also apply with proportional entitlement.
General, Business, Exam & Private
Choose from General English, Business English, Exam Preparation (IELTS/Cambridge), or Personalised one-on-one programmes.
30 Lessons per Week
Most states require a minimum of 30 lessons per week (≈ 22.5 hours). Some states allow reduced hours with self-study components.

Submit to Your Employer
File the formal leave request at least 6 weeks in advance.
Book the Course
Once approved, complete your enrolment and arrange your trip.
Bildungsurlaub-eligible courses
Class Schedules
* The Academic Team will assign your schedule based on availability. If you would like to guarantee the morning schedule, there is a supplement fee of €25 per week (capped at a maximum of €300 for long stays).
Available English Levels
If fewer than five students are taking part in a particular course, the number of lessons will be temporarily reduced. As soon as additional students join the class, the normal lesson times will resume. This applies to ACE Group 20, ACE Group 30, ACE Business, ACE Exam Preparation and ACE Teacher-Training Courses.
Normal lesson times resume as soon as the minimum group size is reached.
